International Summer Institute for Semiotics and Structural Studies
Imatra, Finland, June 8-10, 2003
for abstracts - May
9, 2003
The workshop will include two sessions – on biosemiotics, and on ecosemiotics.
Biosemiotics, that is the study of biosemiosis, or sign processes in (particularly) non-human organisms; that is biology, seen as semiotics. See, e.g., the special issues of Semiotica 124(1/4), 1999; Sign Systems Studies 30(1), 2002, Cybernetics and Human Knowing 10(1), 2003. Also, at a biosemiotics page, and this.
Ecosemiotics, that is the semiotic approach to the culture-nature problems; the study of sign processes in the interaction of humans with their natural environment. See, e.g., the special issues of Zeitschrift für Semiotik 18(1), 1996; Sign Systems Studies 29(1), 2001. Also, at an ecosemiotics page.
This workshop, organised by Kalevi Kull and Timo Maran (University of Tartu), is the continuation of the workshops on semiotics of nature which took place at Imatra (Finland) in 2000 and 2001, and in Kassel (Germany) in 2001.
The list of speakers is still open. However, it already includes
